2/11/2024: Always, always, always practice before an interview.
“Lack of confidence during the interview is why 40% of interviewers don’t take a candidate past the first stage.” | Twin Employment, 27 Astonishing Interview Statistics
2/18/2024: Remember, it’s not the customers job to listen. It’s your job to make them hear.
Famous words of Shark Tanks’ Kevin O’Leary. If your customer isn’t listening, then you haven’t given them enough of a reason to. Tailor your message, always.
2/25/2024: Take your vacations.
According to research from the U.S. Travel Association, in 2018, Americans left 768 million vacation days unused. Even if it’s a ‘stay-cation’ … TAKE YOUR VACATION. It will help you reset, and you’ll return to work feeling more energized and motivated.
3/03/2024: Always proofread emails before sending them.
Why? Because it helps make sure you’re communicating the right message, using the right tone, without spelling or grammer mistakes. Overall, it helps make sure you’re coming across as the professional that you are.
3/10/2024: Make mistakes.
This one is personal to me. I once had a boss who cross-examined me over every mistake, no matter how small or big. It made me petrified of making mistakes, to the point where I would feel sick over minor mistakes. I had to continuously remind myself though, you can’t learn if you don’t make mistakes. Take them seriously when they happen and acknowledge when you are at fault. But whatever you do, don’t be afraid of making mistakes!
3/17/2024: Don’t underestimate the power of listening.
According to Indeed’s Jaime Birt, “Focusing on customers, including what they want, how they feel and where to find them, can improve your results.” And don’t forget, your coworkers are your customers, too.
3/24/2024: Be an expert in your industry.
As the old saying goes, a jack of all trades is a master of none. Enough said.
3/31/2024: Use a notebook.
Weird, I know. But you’ll thank me later. Someone once asked me how I stay on top of everything. I simply pulled out my notebook filled with pages and pages of random notes and phone numbers and reminders… my notebook is my professional lifeline, of you will. Without it, I may very well get lost in the weeds of the day.
4/07/2024: Show up early.
If you’re feeling jaded or downright burnt-out, this may sound counterproductive. According to Mayo Clinic, top reasons for employee burn out include a lack of control, having too much or too little to do, and lack of support. Get to work (if you can) before everyone else. This gives you an opportunity to not only prepare for your day, but you’ll actually find yourself feeling more connected at work.
4/14/2024: Ask a lot of questions.
Successful professionals have become successful because they ask questions, including those about things outside their job scope. This helps you better understand your organization as a whole, and will help you feel overall more confident in your role.
4/21/2024: Get out of your comfort zone!
It can boost your confidence, help you to advance in your profession, and strengthen your professional relationships. According to Psychology Today’s Abigail Brenner, M.D., “Challenging yourself pushes you to dip into and utilize your personal store of untapped knowledge and resources. You have no idea what you’re made of unless and until you venture outside of your own familiar world.”
